Oscars 2009

Posted in Movies by weng Friday January 23, 2009

So Leo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet’s roles in Revolutionary Road were ignored for the Oscars, despite Leo getting nominated and Kate winning the best actress award in the Golden Globes. It’s like the Titanic all over again I suppose ;).

I hope it will be Brad Pitt’s year as I have him pegged to win the best actor gong for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, despite him losing out to Mickey Rourke.

13 February, 8.30pm.

Not really interested cause her gig is probably going to be censored in some way. Perhaps it’ll even get banned before it happens. Certain authorities tried to ban Avril, why not Rihanna?

For those who dig Rihanna:

Ticket range: RM328, RM288, RM198, RM158, RM128

Get your tickets from Axcess online or Axcess physical outlets.

Gig Guide: Jason Mraz Live in Stadium Negara, Malaysia 2009

Jason Mraz is coming to a national stadium near you.

It’s funny cause I’ve been listening to Jason Mraz since his circuit touring years back in his formative years from 1999 - 2002. When he released The Remedy back in 2003, I thought he would be destined for commercial success. Then he had You and I Both, which is my ultimate favourite Mraz track.

Then, he had I’m Yours. It’s a good song, but OVERPLAY. It’s on people’s rintones, caller ringtones. It’s EVERYWHERE.

Now he has a duet with Colbie Caillat.

I guess it took about 8-9 years, but he has truly become a superstar.

4th March,  Stadium Negara.

Tickets range: RM258, RM208, RM168, RM138, RM88, RM68

Grammy Nominations

Posted in Music by weng Wednesday January 21, 2009

Happy New Year!! OK, so I’m a little late. Seems like I just woke up from hibernation to realise that almost the whole January is done. In the mortal words of Lykke Li, Time Flies.

So it’s Grammy nomination time again. Over the years, I have really been losing confidence in the Grammy’s. Are the winners really worthy? A bunch of board members sitting down choosing (voting?) who they think is the best male vocal performance. I’m no arm chair expert, so I’ll let them do their thing.

Record of the Year? I think it’s a toss up between Leona Lewis and Coldplay (Bleeding Love and Viva La Vida). Although it’s good to see Chasing Pavements from Adele there.

Depending on what happens for Record of the Year, which means if Leona wins there, Coldplay should win here.

Bets anyone?

Song of the Year? What’s the difference? This is a songwriters one. Jason Mraz I suppose.

Best New Artist? Where is Leona Lewis? Katy Perry vs Adele. Screw the Jonas Bros.

John Mayer for Best Male Vocal Performance. Duffy for the female version.

Pretty strong lineup this year all round.

Let’s see what happens.
