Originals and Covers

Original: Wild Horses - Rolling Stones, from the album Sticky Fingers 1971.
Notable Covers: The Sundays, Alicia Keys and Adam Levine, Jewell, Chantal Kreviazuk and many others.

The one that I like the most is the version from The Sundays, which has become somewhat of a cult classic. I don’t think it was ever released but it went on cult airwaves when it was used in a Buffy episode and also was placed on the OST of Buffy and also 1996 film Fear starring Mark Wahlberg and Reese Witherspoon.

Two is a Crowd (or Cats in E Cradle) @ Sanctuary, Indochine, Wisma Atria, Singapore

Singapore is one hell of a humid country. Needless to say, I needed some drinks in the middle of the afternoon while strolling along Orchard Road. Whilst my mates and I had some wine, there was a acoustic band that was performing. One of the waiters told me that the band’s name was Two is a Crowd. But the banner on top of their heads stated Cats in E Cradle. I’ll just remember both.

Essentially, they are a cover band. The performed a variety of tracks from Bryan Adams (one of my mates requested Heaven as well), One Republic, Snow Patrol and many others. One other song caught my ear, which was David Cook’s styled rendition of Always Be My Baby from Mariah Carey. Overall, they were pretty entertaining and made the day seem a lot cooler and relaxed. Okay, maybe that was the wine and beer that I had. Nonetheless, I think they deserve a mention on this site. I hope more of them in the future.

Here’s a picture of how they look like. So, email me (look at the side of this site) and let me know what their name is, if you know it.

Review: Diana Krall @ Plenary Hall, KLCC, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Diana Krall’s performance at KLCC is climbing the charts as the highlight gig of the year of 2008. It was an emotional and compelling performance by Elvis Costello’s wife. Kicking off the night with Peggy Lee number, the canadian chanteuse switched to a higher gear with Let’s Fall in Love and Look of Love. Diana hypnotised the crowd with her renditions of Nat King Cole and Sinatra classics, and even with her take on Joni Mitchell’s Case of You. One word: mesmerising. Diana is an accomplished piano player but her guitarist, bassist and drummer will legendary in her own right.

Encore time and Diana ended the night with ‘S Wonderful and another Peggy Lee classic.

One word: Mesmerising.

I walked out of KLCC completely in awe with Diana’s unassuming style and engaging conversations with the crowd. She’s a natural. The sexiest voice of jazz at the moment has come, performed and left the building. Second time in Malaysia, I definitely hope she’ll be back for more.

My Diana Krall review? I said this once and I will say it again. Mesmerising. Jazz at its best.
