American Idol Finale

Taylor! Taylor! Soul Patrol! He was phenomenal. Katharine’s first single was abysmal. Hated it. Taylor’s first single is a number 1 hit.

I love Katharine, I love Katharine!, I love Katharine.

It’s up to America. Katharine’s bulletproofness has been cracking under pressure and she seems limited in the type of songs that she can sings. Ballads all around whilst Taylor can sing the roof on any type of song.

It’s been the single best season ever.  Chris, Taylor, Katharine, Elliot and Paris. Anyone of these 5 could have won (not Elliot! Heh).

To cap off a great night, Daniel Powter with Bad Day, live.

American Idol Finale

And there were two.

I predicted Elliot Yamin to be eliminated no less than 3 times this season. Looks like I finally got my wish.

Kath vs Taylor

Katharine for American Idol!

There is no doubt that both will cut and both will sell albums. Taylor has that x-factor (although Simon doesn’t think so. You cow!). Katharine is an idol from day 1. So who will gain recogntion of being the American Idol of 2006 and who will cut an album and be slightly less remembered as a lot of people forget who finishes second. Sad but true.

My bet, as always, is with Katharine McPhee. She is my American Idol, from day 1.

American Idol Update 12

Elvis Night!

Elliot had an amazing night. Katharine had a good night. To me anyway.

Taylor was solid. Chris was boring on his second song. In short, the underdog showed the rest how to get it done. He is just getting more and more solid. Will that be enough to get him more votes? When we are down to the final four, it becomes more and more of a popularity contest. So although I have been proven wrong, goodbye Elliot!

Update: Wrong again. *GASP* We say goodbye to Chris. What a travesty.

American Idol Update 11

Posted in Music by weng Wednesday May 3, 2006

This week, the idols give us two songs each. One from the year they were born in and one from the bilboard charts (probably the top 100 singles chart)

Elliot started the night off with a George Benson track. Familiar yet unfamiliar as I couldn’t make out what this song was. To me, the performance was bland and didn’t really leave a lasting impression. Next up, he did Michael Buble’s Home. This is my favourite Buble song but Elliot’s rendition was pretty far off the original. Elliot has an amazing vocal range and that is his selling point. Unfortunately, votes will not come his way by virtue of anything else.

Paris does Satisfaction from Prince and Be Without You from Mary to the J. It sounded like any random R&B performer. Choice of songs was not great for her. You don’t do Prince if you can’t be like Prince. And to go up against are veteran Mary J. She didn’t come close.

Chris did Styx! It takes a lot of guts to do Renegade and did Chris do it. He nailed it. Enough said. His next performance was Shinedown’s I Dare You. It’s one of those Vertical Horizon, Puddle of Mudd, I can’t tell the bands and songs apart type of songs. Nevertheless, he did it Chris Daughtry styl-ee.

Katharine performed Phil Collins Against All Odds. A song that has been in countless love albums across the continents. It’s a sappy love song. Katharine’s my favourite but she sounded off key at parts. Next up, Katharine did a KT Tunstall! Her rendition of KT’s Black Horse and the Cherry Tree accompanied by two box drummers. Katharine demonstrated her ability in doing something other than ballads and she kicked ass.

Finally, Taylor rocked the house down with Wild Cherry’s Play That Funky Music and a cover of the Beatles’ Something. He did something different with two evidently different songs. One’s part of the disco era and one is a rock ballad. He showed his sentimental side and his regular all-dancing, all-moving Taylor (drunk man at a party). Easily the best of the night.

So who’s it gonna be? Taylor, Chris and Katharine should be safe. So it’s a toss up between Paris and Elliot. At this stage, all it takes is a bad performance. Although there were no noticeable bad performances, we are down to vote retainership. As shown from last week, Katharine and Chris are the favourites. My bet is on Elliot. He is on his way home, like what he sang. Simon’s insulting, but he’s been spot on a lot of the times. Till tomorrow’s update.

Update: Wrong again. Paris is gone. Next week Elliot is going!
