Band of the Mo’ - Death Cab For Cutie
A friend asked me the other day what was my favourite Death Cab song was. Without hesitation, I said Transatlanticism. But, in all honesty, I think almost all Death Cab songs are pretty awesome.
Strange thing is the fact that when I first heard of Death Cab a couple of years ago, first song I listened to was Expo 86. It didn’t really leave me with lasting impression whatsoever. So I kinda went off Death Cab till I listen to the album.
Anyway, here’s my top 5 Death Cab songs ever.
1. Transatlanticism
2. Different Names for the Same Thing
3. I Will Follow You into the Dark
4. Marching Bands of Manhattan
5. Title and Registration
Strangely, I never really got into their first three albums, Something About Airplanes, The Photo Album and We Have the Facts and We’re Voting Yes, which is why I don’t have any songs from those albums in my top 5. The thing that I really like about Death Cab is the fact that despite signing on Atlantic Records, their latest album, Plans is still an amazing effort.
If lyrics are what gets you off, Death Cab For Cutie is definitely at the top of their class. They seem to take pride in describing experiences and anything in general in a sublime and amazingly beautiful way. In certain aspects, it’s like listening to stories being sung to you. Pure class.
