Windows 7 MY - Talk about Windows 7

Posted in Reco, Websites by weng Thursday September 24, 2009

I’ve been waiting for Windows 7 for a pretty long time. Let’s just say I skipped the Vista generation and was previously on Windows XP since 2003. But that time is long gone. I’ve made the jump to Windows 7. I have installed the RC, then the RTM and have not looked back since. There is a community in Malaysia, which seems to be pretty active driving people on the cool stuff on Windows 7. Check out the Windows 7 Malaysia site, which is showcasing lots of content and also CONTESTS! Yep, you can win stuff at their Windows 7 Malaysia Contests page. Go go go.

Oh yeah, you could also check out their Facebook page and their @win7malaysia Twitter

Homegrown Space @ Wisma Bentley, Mutiara Damansara

The artiste revolution in Malaysia continues to take a bold step forward. Now we have a little space in Mutiara Damansara. It’s run by Homegrown Space, which is an ongoing project to help local talent get discovered. Whether you are a musician, poet, artist, filmmaker, etc, this is the place for you. They’ve got a pretty decent music lineup weekly, which started from last weekend.

I’m looking forward to 23rd where Yuna and Pete Teo will be part of the lineup. Check out the other weekly slots at the Homegrown Space Schedule Page.

Buzz Artiste: Meiko

I heard Reasons To Love You on the 1st episode of Grey’s Anatomy Season 4. I fell in love. So, I was attempting to find out who that was. Ironically, my best mate recommended a podcast from KCRW. Somehow, a lot of artistes I have been liking recently share some vocal resemblence to a certain Shea Seger. Meiko’s voice is a bit more refined and I would say she’s a mix between Kate Havnevik and Shea Seger.

Meiko’s cover of Fever brings a tasteful version of Otis Blackwell’s original classic. Some other noteworthy tracks are How Lucky We Are, Hawaii, Piano Song and Boys with Girlfriends. She’s got a certain quirk and wit in her lyric writing.

Born in Georgia, based in LA, she’s as nice looking as she sounds. She’s got 1/4 japanese blood, which helps as well. Who doesn’t like pretty nice sounding things?

One thing’s for sure, she definitely works as a pick-me-up.

Go watch Grey’s Anatomy! You’ll see what I mean.

Milk Loves You Campaign

Posted in Reco, Websites by weng Wednesday July 30, 2008

Apparently it’s good to drink milk. Tetra Pak has been running this campaign called Milk Loves You, which is for a good cause. They have a Milk Pledge section, which you can click on and max out so that kids get free milk to drink in Malaysia. I guess, I’m not that cold hearted and cynical about everything and don’t only talk about music. Milk is good for you I suppose. Calcium and all.

So go on, support the milk cause in Malaysia and the milk loves you by drinking more milk and giving a milk pledge. You can look and perv at pictures in the Milk Moments Gallery as well.

Don’t be shy yeah. I’m trying to think of some milk songs. Immediately, the one from Garbage comes to mind.

Buzz Site: Le Mellotron

I figured that it is about time where I profile one of those invigorating sites that I have ever been when it comes to music. Back in April 2007, I stumbled upon this site after getting a comment in my shoutbox in my last.fm user profile recommending a Chemical Bros song, Do It Again. Ever since then, I have been back to the site regularly to check out their new recommendations and classic track recommendations. If you like obscure artistes or really good music, do check it out. Le Mellotron provides very honest recommendations and I regard them a true appreciator of music.
